An interaction meeting with the recipient of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Outstanding Woman Scientist Awardee Dr. P.S. Vimala Devi, Principal Scientist (Entomology) from ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad was held on 21st February 2019 at ICAR-NRCG, Pune. Meeting started with ICAR song and brief introduction of the guest by Dr. Indu S. Sawant, Pr. Scientist. Dr. S.D. Sawant, Director welcomed Dr. P.S. Vimala Devi. This interaction meeting was held to motivate woman scientists and female students from Pune based ICAR institutes and colleges. Forty seven women scientists, staff and female students from ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune; ICAR-Directorate of Floricultural Research, Pune; faculty from MIT College of Food Technology, Pune and students from Chandrabhaga Baburao Tupe Sadhana Vidyalaya, Hadapsar; Kanya Prashala, Loni Kalbhor; Annasaheb Magar College, Hadapsar; and Air Force School, Pune interacted with Dr. P.S. Vimala Devi. Dr. P.S. Vimala Devi presented her work for which she received this award. In her talk she emphasized on innovative ideas and self-determination to implement these ideas. All women and girls should take advantage of the facilities available today and support they are receiving from their families to achieve higher goals for the betterment of the society. She urged to the students pursuing Ph.D. to be clear about the objectives of their higher education apart from obtaining degree. Instead of bandwagon approach towards career one should think upon new avenues like MBA in agribusiness, various schemes available in DST, DBT, etc. She answered the queries raised by the participants on patent filing, technology commercialization, submission of projects, funding resources, training etc. Students from schools shared what they want to be when they grow up and also were keen to know how the scientists chose their career. Dr. Vimala Devi also advised to develop good communication skills which is important to present the work done. Dr. Anuradha Upadhyay expressed formal vote of thanks.
