One day training program on “Viticultural practices and grape processing” under Agri-Business Incubation Centre at NRCG, Pune was organized on 27-2-2020 for the potential farmers from Theni district of Tamil Nadu. A total of 45 grape growers attended the program. The program was inaugurated by Dr. R. G. Somkuwar, Director, ICAR-NRCG and in his introductory remark he highlighted the potential of grape cultivation in Tamil Nadu and the potential of Manjari Medika, a juice variety of grape released by NRCG, to the region. After the introductory presentation. Dr. A K Upadhyay, Principal Scientist (Soil Science) gave a presentation on nutrient and water management specific to condition to Tamil Nadu state. Following his lecture, Dr. DS Yadav (Senior Scientist (Entomology) and Dr. Sujoy Saha (Principal Scientist (Pathology) delivered presentations on insect pest and management in grape.
Dr. A K Sharma (Principal Scientist, Horticulture) and Dr. Ahammed Shabeer TP (Scientist, Agri. Chemistry) demonstrated the zero waste concept of processing of Manajari Medika variety. They showcased the juice processing unit, anthocyanin extraction unit and oil extraction unit at Agri-Business Incubation Centre of ICAR-NRCG. Manjari Medika juice were also served to participants and they appreciated juice quality. After the visit to ABI center, the participants visited demonstration block of Manjari Medika, Manajari Naveen and Manjari Shyama. The participants were impressed with the juice quality of Manjari Medika and showed their interest in the variety to grow at Tamil Nadu. Few farmers showed interest in Manjari Medika production and processing.
