Bio-remediation of pesticides using Bacillus subtilis strain DR-39 bio formulation

Status: CIB/RC registration in process

Description: The wet powder formulation of Bacillus subtilis, DR-39 contains efficient Bacillus subtilis DR-39 strain with a bacterial population of 1×109cfu/g which enhances the degradation of pesticide when applied at a dose of 2.5 g/l. It is specifically used for grapevine. Inoculation can be done by foliar spraying. As it is a bio-remediation agent, it can be used for other crops also. Application of Bacillus subtilis DR 39 to grapevine enhanced degradation of the 10  studied pesticides by 12.73-65.55% in ICAR-NRCG vineyardsPicture5

Key features and benefits:

  • Bio-formulation has shown distinct response in the farmer’s field with respect to pesticide degradation. It helps in reduction of pesticide residue on grape berries, which is a boon to the export and domestic crop, to ensure food safety.
  • Late-season application of such Bacillus strains will help in providing direct control of diseases and in cleaning the berries of pesticide residues and be a great boon for the viticulture industry.
  • The growers had an average profit of 1.2 lakh from the demo plots in the year 2019-20. Degradation of pesticides residues at later stage becomes easy thereby making them MRL compliant for export.

Stakeholders: Bio-pesticide industry, pesticide industry.
